Protecting You And Your Family From The Elements

When the time comes for roofing or re-roofing your home there are a lot of factors to consider.  Given the number of choices of roofing materials, there isn’t always a clear choice.  What you choose may depend on how what your priorities are as a consumer.

First, there are benefits to all roofing materials.  All types of roofing, if properly installed according to manufacturers specifications, will at the very least provide your home with adequate protection.  However, features such as longevity, long-term savings, appearance and environmental impact, among others, will differ based on the kind of roofing you choose.

If you are on a tight budget and you want to limit immediate expenses, then asphalt roofing shingles may be your answer.  Additionally, being relatively easy to install, these shingles may save you the extra cost incurred by roofing contractors.

On the other hand, if you place a premium on long-term savings and energy efficiency and you are willing to spend more in the beginning, solar roofing shingles may be what you ultimately choose.  Also, if going “green” is important to you, this may underscore your reason for choosing this option.

In the case of solar, you will probably be out the expense incurred by hiring roofing contractors.  But if you live in sunny Los Angeles or blistering Las Vegas and Phoenix, where clouds seldom visit, you will likely make up for the initial expense and then some in the long run.

A secondary choice for the energy efficient minded homeowner could be residential metal roofing.  Plenty of design styles and color choices make it easy to find something attractive for your home.  Metal roofing reflects the heat away from your home in the summer months and reflects the interior heat of your home downward to maintain the comfort of your within in the winter months.

Perhaps you live in a region with a large amount of snowfall.  If so, standing seam metal roofing is a popular option.  Home and business owners in and around Denver, Chicago, Saint Paul, and other cities where seasonal snowfall is prevalent, often choose this kind of roofing as snow tends to slide off rather easily.

Maybe you are trying to achieve a certain look with your roof.  If your home is in the southwest like Tucson or Albuquerque you might install a tile or concrete tile roof.  Or if you want to want to emulate some of the effects of a classic shake or cedar shingle roof, then you may choose architectural roofing shingles.  The height of these shingles, which enhances dramatic shadowy effect, gives your home an added subtle beauty.

After considering all the roofing material choices and determining your consumer objectives you will probably have enough to make an informed choice.  And if you decide to install your choice of roof yourself, be sure to carefully follow standard roofing installation tips.  Compare. Evaluate.  Decide.  Your ideal roof is out there.
